Playoffs, Over .500, and Under .500 Streaks (Post MLB 2007 edition)

Updating this once again now that the MLB regular season is over. This is the list of the USA's longest streaks among major professional sports teams. This list is limited to the top 4 leagues, plus MLS. I've now dropped the WNBA, mostly since the Los Angeles Sparks 8 year playoff streak is over. Over and under .500 is considered to be when there are more/fewer wins than losses (so draws are counted as half of each), and for the NHL OT losses are counted the same as regular losses.

Playoff Streaks

1 Detroit Red Wings NHL 16
2 New York Yankees MLB 13
3 San Antonio Spurs NBA 10
3 New Jersey Devils NHL 10
3 Ottawa Senators NHL 10

The Yankees increase their streak by one, and are now the only baseball team to have a multi-year streak. The Cardinals lost a 3 year streak and drop out.

This doesn't include any MLS teams that have clinched this year so far, as I only update it after each regular season ends. So the Revs will be tied for 7th among all American sports teams, pretty good. DC and NY should enter the top ten, while the Rapids will probably drop out.

Over .500 Streaks

1 New York Yankees MLB 15

44 Pittsburgh Penguins NHL 1

Lots of long baseball streaks go out the window today. Oakland (8 years), St. Louis (7), Houston (6), Minnesota (6), Chicago White Sox (4). So outside of the Yankees and Red Sox, the top streak is now Philadelphia. Pretty interesting.

The Yankees now are tied for first. DC United will only tie for 16th after this season, despite being the top MLS team in the ranking.

The Rockies' 6-year streak falls by the wayside. Pirates are still the kings of suck.

Columbus and RSL are headed for their 3rd straight losing seasons, which is tops in the usually even MLS.
