MLS Players in the World Cup



Ok, now that my anger has subsided over the USA's poor showing, I can post something today. Here's a list of every MLS player that has played in the World Cup since the first opportunity in 1998. I'm counting only guys who were with an MLS team at the time, so no Tim Howard for example. For my previous list of MLS players in other international tournaments, click here.

1) The three new MLS teams (including Houston) all sent players, which means that FC Dallas continues to be the only MLS team without a World Cup player. That was the first thing I thought about when they traded Eddie Johnson before this season.

2) Five teams have sent a player in all three tournaments since the league started: COL-DC-KC-LA-NE.

3) Columbus' 5 players in 1998 remain a record. Overall, CLB and KC are tied with 6 players.

4) Pablo Mastroeni is only the fourth player to make it twice in a row while playing for the same MLS team.

5) No team has had more than one foreign player.
