Scotland vs USA preview

G-Howard, Keller
D-Berhalter, Bocanegra, Cherundolo, Conrad, Onyewu, Pearce, Spector
M-Beasley, Carroll, Feilhaber, Gaven, Olsen, Quaranta, Zavagnin
F-Ching, McBride, Rolfe, Wolff

Given that most of our offensive weapons are out (now also including McBride through injury), and our defense is mostly intact, I expect a low scoring game. Scotland is not as good as we are, but they have some things working in their favor here, so I'll go with a 1-1 draw.

Keller should start in goal. Spector could start, but the other guys may force him to come off the bench. He does seem likely to play though, because this is a perfect opportunity (and one of the only ones) to see how the young guys can play in a tough, World Cup-like environment. With that in mind, Conrad and Carroll seem likely to get some playing time. I really don't think Zavagnin will make the World Cup roster, unless there's a bunch of injuries, so Carroll could make a good impression and surge past him on the depth chart here.

For Gaven, Pearce, and Rolfe, this is a chance to put themselves in the running, especially Pearce. I don't know if he'll get to play, but at the very least he can make a good impression and get called in again.

I hate to predict a lineup, because Bruce always seems to start 2-3 guys that I didn't expect. But I'll give it a shot:

Keller, Spector, Bocanegra, Onyewu, Cherundolo, Beasley, Zavagnin, Olsen, Quaranta, Ching, Wolff

EDIT: Apparently, Onyewu will not be making the trip now.
