Univision miles ahead of ESPN

Why would anyone watch the Disney networks' coverage over the Spanish networks? Just for the record, here's why Univision was better yesterday:

1) More of the screen is available to show the game. ESPN2 had the ticker at the bottom, and a bar at the top that went accross the whole screen.

2) ESPN joined the action seconds before kickoff. No national anthems, no starting lineups until minutes into the game, no introduction of any kind. That's the biggest thing. Yes, they've showing every game live, but they could be doing so much more.

You can also mention the commentators if you want. Also, it seems to me that ESPN is a little darker for some reason.

Because we are only fluent in English :(

I challenge number one. While the ticker and scoring bar do take away from the vertical screen space, ESPN2-HD has much more real estate in the horizontal plane with their 16x9 widescreen picture.

And oh yeah, there's the 720 lines of high-definition resolution compared to the 480 provided by Univision and Setanta.

Finally, when you're in the bar drinking with your mates, it's a lot more fun to watch on ESPN2-HD so you can make fun of the stupid stuff that those guys say.

(BTW, I actually thought that JP Dellacamera and John Harkes were pretty good today).

I don't have an hdtv like 75% of the population, so that does me no good.

The menu bar across the top of the screen is, 90%+ of the time, just blocking the view of people sitting in the stands. No big deal. The ticker at the bottom... generally, they do screen compression when that comes up so that no blocking is actually happening.

I just recall years past when we couldn't watch any games except US games even tape delayed. It is so much better now.
