BASAs: Favorite MLS Player
(5-3-1 scoring system) You would think that a couple of players would be universally loved, but that's not the case. With 15 participating blogs voting for three players each, that's a total of 45 possible different players that could've been named. We ended up with 31, including only seven that got multiple votes. No shock that Dempsey runs away with it. With his exciting play and promotion off the field ("Don't Tread"), he's the biggest name in MLS. I was a bit stunned to find Pope in second, though. He's pretty much the exact opposite personality wise, but he's a class act. I should note that there were two RSL blogs among the 15 voting; however, only one named Pope. Donovan, for all the vitriol spewed his way, managed to finish third. Of course, given the small number of voters this is not a real sense of who's popular with all MLS fans. Some big names like Brian Ching and Taylor Twellman aren't named here, when they would surely be near the top of a leaguewide fan survey.
