Fouls In MLS: 2007 Individual Leaders

Anyone can go on MLSnet and see that Juan Toja committed the most fouls this season, and that Alejandro Moreno suffered the most. But looking at those two categories only scratches the surface when it comes to stats on fouls in MLS. A better way to look it would be to figure out the number of FC (fouls committed) and FS (fouls suffered) per 90 minutes. Then, Moreno and Toja only rank 3rd and 7th respectively.

Of course I didn't stop there.

What follows is a list of the top tens for eight foul statistics in MLS this season. You'll also see the top ten in each category all time. All were calculated per 90 minutes. Also, a player must have played 20% of the season to be eligible. That's the standard I used for every season. This year that would be 540 minutes.

For detailed data on previous years, see my post on the subject back in May here.

Great number crunching!

Question: Under Least Fouls Committed, why is Parkurst at .205, but for the all time top 10, Parkhurst's 2007 number is.19?

I mistakingly switched the years for Parkhurst. 2005 should be .19 and 2007 should be .20. It's been edited.

As always I love the stats. But how do they change when we have some minimal number of games tto have been played. The reason I ask is that 1/2 way - 2/3 of the way through this season Toja was on pace to set an all time records for total number of fouls committed in a season.

Yet another reason I'm looking forward to seeing Parkhurst wearing the red, white, and blue as often as possible.
