The full list of each team's most valuable player award from 1996-2008 are below. Each Major League Soccer team gives out its own set of team awards at the end of each season, usually announced at the last home regular season game. Not to be confused with the leaguewide awards.
Sometimes the news articles state that the winner's fellow players voted him MVP, but I've read about the media voting as well. It's probably done the same way as the leaguewide awards, where you combine the votes from all the different groups (players, media, coaches). Either that or different teams have different voting standards.
The 2008 winners are:
CHI | Jon Busch | CHV | Sacha Kljestan | CLB | Guillermo Barros Schelotto | COL | Pablo Mastroeni | DAL | Kenny Cooper | DC | Jaime Moreno | HOU | Brian Ching | KC | Jimmy Conrad | LA | Landon Donovan | NE | Steve Ralston | NY | Juan Pablo Angel | RSL | Javier Morales | SJ | Darren Huckerby | TOR | Carl Robinson | Moreno is now tied with Preki for the most team mvp awards with 5.

That's an error; Dougherty was likely listed twice since he won in 1999 as well.
Notes
- Interestingly, three times the winner of the league MVP has failed to win their team award. Those instances are in 1996, 2001, and 2005.
- Eddie Pope was named to the league's all time Best XI in 2005, yet has never been a team MVP. Of course, several of his ex-teammates were also on that all time team.
- In 2007, two teams named two players as co-MVPs, which is a trend that I hope doesn't catch on. It's a cop-out.
- The worst player to ever win one? How about Billy Walsh in 1999? Henry Ring in 2004 is another one that stands out.
- Diallo and Razov won their only awards with New York and Chivas respectively.

Comments on "MLS Team MVPs"
Not too surprising that Pope never won ... scrolling through the list, Agoos (in 01) and Kubik (in 99) were the only winners I saw at center back. It's an under-appreciated role.
As to the worst player who won the award, I'd go with either Alan Prampin in 98 (worst overall) or Ramon Ramirez in 05 (possibly the worst at the time he won).
Prior to Emilio in 07, it appears that no Brazilian had ever been a team MVP, which I find pretty amazing ... and Mamadou Diallo looks to be the only African ... meanwhile, Scotland has won 4 awards, Wales and Ireland 1 each, England zero.
when did razov win in ny??
I have a lot of respect for any player named team MVP. All teams have national team players from a variety of countries. Also, each player fought off other potential MVP's on their team who went on to win future MVP's, national team duties. For example, Billy Walsh beat out U.S. National Team players Tab Ramos,Tim Howard,Mark Chung among others. Alan Prampin beat out national team players Steve Ralston, Dominic Kinnear, Frank Yallop(Canada) and Thomas Ravelli(Sweden). It is extremely difficult to win a team MVP in any professional sport. I give props to all of them and leave it at that ;)
