J.P. Rodrigues is MLS Player #1,499
The emergency loan defender (also known as John Paul Rodrigues) came on as a sub for a depleted DC United team last night. He becomes the 1,499th player in league history, in all competitions. This means that we're only one more debut away from the milestone. The next player to make his debut will be the one. Could it be Tyler Deric later today, for Houston against New England? Or maybe Philadelphia's J.T. Noone, whose team is out of contention? Or how about Chivas' academy signing, Byran de la Fuente? We'll soon learn the answer. As a side note, Rodrigues represents Guyana internationally. I thought for a second that I'd be able to mark off another country on the list of MLS player nationalities, but then I realized that Gregory Richardson played a couple games for the Rapids last year. Remember him? The Countdown to 1,500 Players
