Current 2008 MLS Superdraft Order

EDIT 12/20: RSL trades Harris to CHV for the 37th pick. I now have Chivas with only one pick in the draft. Also, you'd think MLS would've published the order by now...

EDIT 12/11: Ives reports that NY will give up their first rounder to Chicago for signing Osorio.

Also, now that RSL's 3rd rounder is not going to DC, I remember Buzz from 3rddegree saying that Dallas should have that pick due to Kreis' retirement (future considerations, I guess). I remember some confusion there, so that should be cleared up now since DC's out of the picture. So that's changed as well.

EDIT 12/7: Goff reports that DC has 3 picks: 24, 33, 52. I have them with 5 picks: 24, 28, 31, 33, 38. What are the differences? DC owes the Fire a conditional pick for Monteiro, so I'd already given the 52nd pick to the Fire. Turns out that Monteiro trade was for a third rounder, per his bio. Additionally, LA owes DC a conditional pick for Quaranta (1st or 2nd round). I gave United LA's worst 2nd rounder, the 28th pick. Usually, those conditional picks aren't usually exchanged until right before the draft. So I'm assuming that DC will get the pick from LA, and that the 38th pick (DC's natural 3rd rounder) will go to Chicago. Which then gives them back the 52nd.

So what about the 31st pick? I've listed DC with RSL's 3rd rounder due to the Adu trade, which was mentioned by Goff a while back. I've never seen any mention of it elsewhere, actually. Guess it was the "future considerations" mentioned when the trade was announced. Now, Goff has changed his story and said in the comments that he believes it's a 2009 pick. Actually, RSL has already traded their 2009 3rd rounder to KC. However, since he received that info from the team itself, I'll have to give RSL back the 31st pick here.

So that explains that.

EDIT 11/27: The Rapids should have NY's natural 4th rounder due to the Mathis trade. So I'm assuming that the 4th rounder they owe to LA for Quaranta will be the 51st instead. Also, included the Burpo deal.

EDIT 11/26: The Mathis pick is LA's natural pick. Also, NY has RSL's 4th rounder due to trading Rimando back to them. Thanks to Mooch on Soccerpubs. But RSL already had traded their fourth rounder to Dallas, so how does that work? According to the press release, RSL had Chivas' 4th rounder, how I don't know. So that gives NY the 51st pick and leaves Chivas with only one pick.

EDIT 11/19: Clint Mathis is traded to LA for a third rounder. No word yet on which one, so I just assumed the worst one (34th) would be given up. It's the 32nd pick, LA's natural pick.

EDIT (Post MLS-Cup): The order here is correct, and nothing changes from the original date of this post.

Currently, only the final four spots (11-14) are unknown. The MLS Cup winner will draft last, followed by the runner up, then followed by the two semifinal losers. So the positions could still change slightly, but this is pretty much set. The four first round playoff losers are ranked by their total points (7-10: NY, DAL, CHV, DC).

There's still a bit of guesswork with the conditional picks, and also there could be a trade or two that's unlisted. Please post in the comments if you have any additional knowledge.

Just a small clerical error, but in the total picks and positions section, you inverted Dallas and DC's picks.

Very helpful info though.

I think you also inverted NY's and RSL's picks. Thanks for the analysis!

Did you catch you youtube vid on the front page of http://www.boston.com/ ?

Switched NY and RSL, so everything should be correct now.

I didn't see anything on boston.com?

I'm curious what the current NCAA talent pool is looking like. Obviously, we get a lot more exposure to college players in basketball and football. Anybody that's noteworthy?

I was curious about the mls superdraft in 2008. When and where will it take place? I went to it last year only because I accidentally walked into it basically lol. It was fun. I would like to go again. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

can students in high school join in the draft

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:31 AM, December 03, 2007) :

UCLA had a disappointing year, lost two or three of their players last year to Europe. They've always had a good reputation in producing good professionals. Anyone coming out of there for this draft

Blogger scaryice said ... (12:58 AM, December 04, 2007) :

High schools kids could only be part of the draft as Generation Adidas players, I believe.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:27 PM, December 08, 2007) :

whe is the draft again???

Blogger scaryice said ... (6:22 PM, December 09, 2007) :

Middle of January.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:00 PM, December 10, 2007) :

your missing one of Dallas's picks...they had a deal with RSL over Kreis' retirement; Dallas got a 3rd rounder for the deal, so looks like the Hoops have seven picks (see 3rd degree on the roster dance for the info if you want my source)

Blogger scaryice said ... (4:07 PM, December 11, 2007) :

Yeah, I had heard about that from Buzz. So with the RSL-DC pick off, I guess that's Dallas' pick.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:14 PM, March 07, 2008) :

Yes it was a dallas pick. They will reach the top again
